Description

An excellent Spanish-made classical guitar from 1970 with it's original hardshell case. It turned up stuck behind some much larger cases in Gryphon's storage room, we probably took it in trade way-back-when and then lost track of it. The back and sides are genuine mahogany and the top is red cedar, the neck is Spanish cedar with an ebony fingerboard.  The bridge is rosewood. This guitar was constructed in the traditional Spanish method, with Spanish heel neck joint, fan braced top, the works, and except for the mahogany body it's an almost perfect match to a rosewood version we sold on eBay last week. The paper label is signed.   This guitar has a 655mm string scale, with a neck 51mm wide at the nut.
The neck angle is a bit shallow but string action at the 12th fret measures  9/64"  for the low E and 8/64" for the high E.  While this Anselmo Solar Gonzalez is probably not suitable for players who want low steel-string action it's very playable with a bright and gutsy tone. Of course with a fingerboard this thick it could be refretted to achieve far lower string action. As these photos show the original finish has crazed but the result is a nice consistent patina. This guitar is original throughout with smooth-working tuners and shows no signs or damage or loose braces. The frets are firmly seated, the bridge is solidly glued to the top and the Spanish case is in functional condition.
