    Description

Vintage Italian Road Bike Groupo Groupset -nearly complete!
    Giovanni Galli
, a professional Italian cyclist, founded Galli & Co in Torino in the 1930's, and
claimed to have produced the world’s first alloy caliper brakes. By the late 1970s,
    Galli
presented a branded groupo, having successfully partnered with Maillard and Stronglight of France to supply certain components.
Dr. Giovanni Savio, Galli's nephew, was the company director from the 1970s onward.
By the 1980's Galli hit the big time.
Galli regarded itself as the equal of Campagnolo in engineering terms but without the unnecessary hype. A Galli representative once earnestly stated that Torino was the real capital of Italian engineering, and that Vicenza (the home of Campagnolo) was more famous as a manufacturing centre for jewellery for women, which he considered entirely appropriate given some of the prima donna’s that Campagnolo was sponsoring at the time! Galli's component line extended from the semi-pro level (Sport) to the most exotic titanium super-lightweight parts, all with the emphasis on engineering.
The line included derailleurs, shifters, crank sets, bottom brackets, pedals, rims, brakes and hubs.
Professionals included Tour de France veteran
    Herman Van Spingel
, who won one of Europe’s oldest and longest classics, Bourdeaux-Paris, with
    Galli
    components in 1981.
    In the USA,
    Lon Haldeman
    and
    Sue Notorangelo
    used
    Galli
equipped bikes on their record-breaking transcontinental tandem ride, and the 1983 Race Across American
    .
But like so many European firms, Galli was unable to withstand the onslaught of Asian production. They closed their doors in 1989.
This is nearly a complete Galli groupo bike build. The only things missing (from the original 1980's build pack) are the headset and the rear derailleur. The hubs are on Mavic G 40 rims, also original to this timeframe. Included Galli items:
    Brake levers
    Brakes (but not the pads)
    Front derailleur
    Crankset with 52/42 chainrings
Pedals and clips - clips are french Christophe
    Bottom Bracket with grease collar
    Seatpost
    Wheel skewers
    Hubs with Mavic G40 rims
The shipping estimate is for everything shown. If you do not want the Mavic rims, I can take them out and just ship the Galli hubs, along with the rest of the components, which would fit in a Flat Rate Medium Box with a cost of .20, if you're in the US.
So do NOT pay immediately after winning the item. Let me know whether you want the wheels so I can calculate the proper shipping charge and send you an exact invoice.
To visualize the groupo, this unboxed set just sold in Italy for 50 usd:
